Martina has a wide and varied repertoire as a solo accordionist and singer and also performs with other musicians and groups, such as Bal de Bourdon, Palavah, Freylekh and Bow & Bellows.
She has extensive stage experience, performing and composing for theatre, dance and film here in the UK and internationally to great acclaim. Martina has appeared in A Family Affair at the Arcola Theatre (Bow & Bellows), in Falling About at Sadlers Wells, at the Purcell Room (Bow & Bellows and Beskydy), the Brighton Fringe Festival (Bow and Bellows), Spitalfields Festival (Bow and Bellows), Klez Fest London, Komedia Brighton (Freylekh), Laban Theatre (Bubble Theatre & Green Candle), Kings Head Theatre (Neapolitan songs with Charles Castranova), at the Bath Literature Festival (Bow & Bellows), the Egg Theatre in Bath (showcase music), Lilian Baylis Theatre (Green Candle Dance), The Serpentine & the Baltic with “Hunky Bluff” by Lina Lapelyte and in the site-specific show Fissure in the Yorkshire Dales by Louise Ann Wilson performing music by Jocelyn Pook.
With Freylekh Klezmer band, Martina has also performed the Dorchester Hotel, Arnold Circus Bandstand (Shoreditch), at festivals and for Jewish weddings and bar mitzvahs.
Martina’s community work has taken her to health settings and residential care homes where she animates her audiences with lively and individually prepared performances. She works closely with Green Candle Dance Company, whose work is documented in a recent BBC Health Check report.
As a member of the Natural Voice Practitioners’ Network, Martina is passionate about working with amateur singers as well as professionals. She prepared Hackney Song Works, her community choir, and other London choirs for a mass choir performance run at the Barbican in 2018 as part of the show “Memorial”, a Brink production with music by Jocelyn Pook. Her own choral composition for many voices “L’eau de l’eau” was premiered by the Sing for Water mass choir at the Totally Thames Festival in 2016. Martina taught and conducted a specially formed scratch choir and performed her vocal composition “Big Data Sing” as part of the UCL Transformative Technologies Festivals at the Grant Museum in 2014.
